Directions to Mabel’s Farm

To get to Mabel’s organic farm you need to get on the Emergency Vehicle Access (EVA) road which links Tai Tei Tong(TTT) with Luk Tei Tong(LTT), two villages at the back of Mui Wo. If you take Rural Committee Road and head out towards TTT you will join the EVA just past TTT. Fifty metres along it on the right is Mui Wo Primary School:

This shot is taken from the EVA. Take the path in the left hand corner of the picture and follow it for about 100 metres (it curves round to the right towards Fieldwork). You’ll come to Mabel’s gate:

This is Mabel, with trendy farm clothes and her new supersize poly tunnels in the background:

The gate will be closed so you’ll have to give Mabel a shout, but she’s always around, so there’s no problem, but don’t go on a Sunday.

If you come from the LTT end, you can see the farm and poly tunnels over on the left, so hop over the fence, get onto the path (in the picture below), follow it to the right and then curve round to the left towards Fieldwork until you reach the gate:

At the moment she’s got potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, white radish, fennel, garlic chives, and possibly more.

About transitionsl

I've been an English teacher for the best part of 30 years, teaching in England, Tanzania, Brunei, Australia and Hong Kong. I've always been interested in nature and environmental issues, but it was the discovery of Peak Oil about five years ago that galvanised me into trying to help my local community to prepare for what will be a dramatically different world to the one many of us have been used to. I've been helping to run a transition group, following the guidelines created by Rob Hopkins's Transition Movement in the UK. This blog is an attempt to engage in discussion with a wider group of people in Hong Kong on the ways to transition from our current oil dependency to a state of fossil-free local resilience.
